Welcome to Charlotte’s Web: Fierce, Flawless Fabulous Freelance!
Words are the main medium through which we define ourselves, our experiences, and the universe.
Writing is the only thing I care about, so you best believe I care
about making you look and sound your best.Your presence (both in print and online) make strong first and lasting impressions–and can make or break connections. The world is rapidly changing thanks to the Internet–blogs, Twitter, Facebook, social media–and information gathering is more complex today than in years past.
I went to journalism school to learn how to properly utilize the ever-developing technologies of our era, but the formal education was a mere complement to my years of personal and professional writing. As a result, I have quite the spectrum of skill and experience with words–and I know how to best use them.

Brochures: Light on the Hill for Africa
In a previous post, I detailed Light on the Hill for Africa’s Garden Links initiative. In addition to the substenance gardening program, LOTH has also implemented the Sister Schools program.
I created a brochure summarizing the non-profit organizations Garden Links and Sister Schools programs:
Sister Schools is an educational program that links American and Zambian schools. Students participate in a globally connected, synchronous and a-synchronous distance-learning experiential classroom exchange utilizing Smartboards and Skype.
This innovative approach for virtual education classrooms creates global connections, distance-learning opportunities and rich cultural exchanges among students across the continental divides, given the privileges and the educational technologies available to educate the world.

Editing: Garden Links Distance eLearning Curriculum

For one of her final projects in her Master’s Degree program at Roosevelt University, Princess Zindaba Nyirenda developed a distance eLearning curriculum called Garden Links. Princess Zindie is the president and founder of a nonprofit organization called The Light on the Hill for Africa, which is collaborating with the Chicago Botanic Gardens and Windy City Harvest to implement LOTH’s Garden Links program.
Princess Zindie wrote the entire curriculum from scratch, and I edited and formatted the document. You can read the PDF of the program by clicking the link below:

Business Correspondence: Loquacious Catering
I met Chef Aleta S. Williams during an introductory breakfast for prospective members of The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). Chef Aleta is the proprietor of Loquacious Catering, a Chicago-based food service company specializing in healthy food options. She caters for businesses and corporations, private parties, social events, wedding events, and even provides personal chef services for individuals and families.
Below is one example of some of the business correspondence letters I prepared for her company. This particular letter is an introduction letter to brides-to-be, explaining Loquacious Catering’s services and inviting the potential client to explore the food options available for events such as bachelorette parties, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, and the wedding reception.

Artist Biography – Chicago rock band Treaty of Paris EP Release
Many aspiring musicians can only dream of doing some of the things that Treaty of Paris has accomplished in four short years, but the Chicago power pop/rock band is raising the bar with an even more powerful story to tell—and a new EP to boot. The record, Currents, is just another high point in the roller coaster story of Treaty of Paris’ journey.

“The songs on Currents reflect our sound as Treaty of Paris, but with more conviction and prowess,” says drummer Chris Insidioso. “Currents, pertaining to ocean waves, are a great metaphor for pressing on and moving forward, and that’s what we are accomplishing with this new music.”
Treaty of Paris is Mike Chorvat (vocals), Dan Wade (guitar/vocals), Phil Kosch (guitar), Insidioso, and Nick Fonzi (bass/vocals). The band dedicated the entire last year to writing and recordingCurrents, which is the follow-up EP to their debut full-length record, Sweet Dreams, Sucker.

Artist Biography – The Xception
For every rule, there is an exception, and a new musical group from the Windy City is striving to change the standards in the music industry. Aptly called The Xception, Auralia Feifarek and Kerry Lewis, known as Lia and KB, are a male-female pop/hip-hop duo, challenging the status quo of the music industry.
The duo brings a distinctive style of music to the table, which they describe as a unique blend of pop and rap. Both artists rap, but Lia also infuses her sweet vocal melodies in every song, adding a different dynamic to their style.
With song titles like “Shake it Like You Wanna Get Paid” and “Footies to Goodies,” The Xception produces fun, memorable tracks with a universal, commercial appeal—daring the listener to sit still.

Newspaper Clip – The Changing Face of Beauty
Charlotte Mutesha
Dominican Star
Nov. 2008It is a decades-old issue across the globe—super-skinny models and waiflike celebrities influencing “regular” people—but it wasn’t always like that. In the 1940s and 50s, voluptuous, post-war fertility symbols were worshipped—models and actresses such as Marilyn Monroe—and they dominated pop culture until British model Twiggy hit the scene. Ninety pounds at the age of 16, she was a catalyst for the 60s mod craze embracing fair, thin-limbed, doe-eyed beauties that has continued…until now.
vs.
Change may be on the horizon, however. Sparked by the runway collapse of a Uruguayan model who subsisted on leafy vegetables for six months, leading to her death, Milan and Madrid have banned excessively thin models from their runways. There is even pending legislation that would enable judges to fine or imprison publications, modeling agencies, or fashion designers for “inciting” anorexia, according to “Size zero not my hero,” an article the Daily Targum published in April. They report that models with a body mass index (BMI) of lower than 18 are not able to walk the runways, and new industry standards are requiring them to carry an up-to-date health certificate. Is that too much?

Newspaper Clip – 2nd Fridays exposes artists, sates enthusiasts in Pilsen East
Charlotte Mutesha
Dominican STAR
January 2007
Jazzy funk music filled the crisp Chicago air one Friday evening in the Pilsen East neighborhood. People were bustling about, hurrying to get into the various art galleries and out of the cold. A 3½-foot ceramic figure of a young girl with the head of a rabbit stood in one window. A couple galleries south, colorful abstract drawings in motion were projected in movie form on the Plexiglas storefront window. In the main building, a model in haute couture sashayed through the crowd while artists and aficionados mingled, appreciating and celebrating all forms of the arts. This flurry of action in the Chicago Arts District was just a typical night for “XII,” the third season of the 2nd Fridays Group Show.
